Shadecore
A downloadable game for Windows
You find yourself trapped inside a house with boarded windows. You see a clock on a table with a timer that is running out. You can't remember this house or how you got here and must explore your surroundings quickly. There is no way to escape. When the timer runs out, you realize that the house was not keeping you locked in, but rather it was preventing something from getting inside.
Features
Shadecore is a singleplayer first-person survival horror game that has 3 key features:
Procedural generation
Procedural algorithm is used to place every object in the world. It includes generation of building shape and floor plan, room assignment, furniture and items placement. This system makes the environment replayable and non-linear.
Interactable world
Every object has physics and can be picked up or dragged. This allows for creative gameplay. For example, you can bring a lamp from other room and place it near the entrance, rearrange furniture to block that entrance and finally wield a mighty toaster.
Stealth and combat
Shadecore supports both stealth and combat play-styles. You are given the choice of hiding from a dangerous encounter or using the gear you have collected to fight the enemy. You need to survive until daylight to get the victory screen.
Scope
The game is short and restricted to a single building for quicker playtesting. I intend to keep Shadecore small until the main gameplay systems are implemented and fleshed out and a decent amount of content added. So, for now, I'm not planning to add big features like multiplayer or open world of any sort.
Inspiration
Here is a list of games I loved playing for their grim atmosphere and unique gameplay: Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead, Darkwood, 7 Days To Die. I'm trying to include aspects that I found the best in these games, with my own twist. If you're new to survival horror genre, you should definitely check them out after you give my game a go.
Notice
This is the only official page for the game. Be cautious of any information or contacts regarding Shadecore game outside of itch.io. The game is free and will always be free to download. You can support Shadecore development through the donation page (DonationAlerts).
Thank you!
I'm working on Shadecore solo and decided it would be a great to get someone else's perspective on the game early in development. I'm open to new ideas. Any feedback is welcome.
